Local digital creator, 'Council Estate Bev' confirmed to co-host Barnsley Pride's cabaret stage, and she's taking no prisoners. Ahead of Barnsley Pride 2025, 'Bev' took some time out, looking after her babbies, to answer our questions in an exclusive interview.
Who is your LGBTQ+ s/hero (or non-binary)?
I’d have to say my sister. She’s been a lesbian all her life. She’s got the reyt idea 'cause men are nowt but trouble. Also, I love Pat Butcher. She’s a good un.
What is your earliest memory of pride, and which was the first one you attended?
I went to my first pride with my sister back in the 80’s. Of course it was only in our back garden like, but still. Folk off the estate came and we had a barbie and let off some balloons. There was a rainbow that day an all. Special.
What are your thoughts on the importance of representation and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community?
Listen, I’m here for all they gay’s. Love is love at the end of the day. None of my business who you fancy. If you’re reyt with me, I’m reyt with you flower. I think we should be celebrating all the colours of the rainbow. World would be boring if it was just black and white eh?
A few of Bev's favourite things
I like nothing more than being at home wi mi babbies, dancing around to Tina Turner and George Michael. Sunday dinner and a proper Yorkshire tea, does me well flower.
What's your answer to living your best life?
At the end a day, it gets dark. So pay no mind to folk who try to bring ya darn. Let them stay darn there. The only way for us is up flower.
