A minutes silence in honour of Ollie

We (Barnsley Pride) would like to announce that this year’s event will include a minute’s silence in memory of Ollie, who tragically took her own life following homophobic bullying at her school.
The moment of reflection will take place during the main stage proceedings as attendees, performers, volunteers and members of the community come together to honour Ollie’s memory and stand united against hate and discrimination.

Standing for Ollie
When people stand for a minute’s silence for Ollie, they are standing for more than her death. They are standing for her life — for the funny, beautiful girl with blonde hair and cyan dreams, who loved cooking, gaming, pranks, and making people laugh. They are standing for her humour, her empathy, her beautiful heart, and the fourteen years of love she gave this world.

The tribute is intended not only to remember a young life lost too soon, but also to highlight the devastating impact bullying and prejudice can have on LGBTQ+ people.
Macauley, Marketing and Communications lead for Barnsley Pride said:
“We want to take a moment as a community to remember Ollie, celebrate who she was, and send a clear message that homophobic bullying has no place in our society. Pride is about visibility, acceptance, support and love — and we hope this tribute reminds people that kindness and understanding can save lives.”
The minute’s silence is expected to be one of the most poignant moments of the day, encouraging attendees to join together in solidarity and reflection.
Barnsley Pride continues to champion equality, inclusion and support for LGBTQ+ people across the region, while raising awareness of the challenges many still face today.
