Open training sessions and recruitment events are set to begin this summer, with players of all abilities encouraged to attend — from complete beginners to experienced grassroots footballers.

Club founder said the project is about far more than results on the pitch.

“We want this to be a team the whole community can be proud of. Football should be for everyone, and we’re building something where people feel accepted, valued and able to compete without fear of discrimination.”

The initiative has already gained interest from local residents, equality groups and grassroots sports organisations eager to support the development of inclusive opportunities within the region.

Organisers hope the team will eventually compete in national LGBTQ+ football events while also helping to tackle social isolation and improve mental wellbeing through sport and community connection.

Weekly sessions will include football training at Locke Parke, fitness activities and social meet-ups designed to encourage participation both on and off the pitch.

The club is currently seeking players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and local partners to help establish the team ahead of its first official fixtures next year.
