Supreme Court ruling declaring women may only be recognised based on their assigned sex at birth. We strongly condemn the recent Supreme Court ruling declaring that trans women are not women and may only be recognised based on their assigned sex at birth.
This decision is not only a profound misstep in the pursuit of justice and equality but a direct affront to the dignity, identity, and rights of transgender individuals across the nation.
Gender is not determined solely by biology. It is a deeply personal, lived experience that encompasses identity, expression, and the right to be seen and respected as who one truly is. By denying trans women recognition as women, the Court has legitimised discrimination, emboldened bigotry, and eroded the fundamental human rights of an already marginalised community.
This ruling ignores the medical, psychological, and sociological consensus that supports the validity of transgender identities. It strips trans people of critical legal protections, contributes to increased stigma and violence, and undermines efforts to create a more inclusive society.
We stand in unwavering solidarity with the transgender community. Trans women are women. No court ruling can change that truth. We call on lawmakers, civil rights organisations, and every member of society to reject this harmful decision and continue the fight for full equality and recognition for all people, regardless of gender identity.
