Trans-Form Barnsley brought colour, creativity, and community spirit to the heart of South Yorkshire this week with “Pronouns and Pumpkins,” a seasonal social event celebrating trans joy and inclusion.

Held at Spiral City in The Arcade on Wednesday 22nd October, the gathering welcomed trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people, along with allies, for an evening of pumpkin carving, crafts, and conversation. The event aimed to offer a relaxed, affirming space where people could connect and express themselves freely — all while embracing the autumn spirit.

Our first event was a huge success and the feedback given from the community was invaluable. Pumpkins and Pronouns was well received from the various age ranges that attended and thought the atmosphere was welcoming and warm.” said Kieran, one of the coordinators from Trans-Form Barnsley, a local group supporting the trans community through peer support and social activities.

Attendees enjoyed a mix of activities including pumpkin carving and autumn-themed games, alongside refreshments and music. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with participants sharing stories, laughter, and new friendships.

Events like Pronouns and Pumpkins form part of Trans-Form Barnsley’s wider mission to build visibility, understanding, and solidarity across the community. The group regularly hosts meetups, workshops, and advocacy initiatives aimed at improving local support networks for trans and nonbinary people.

It’s about creating spaces where we don’t just exist — we thrive,” added Kieran. “We want people to feel seen, safe, and celebrated, especially as the nights draw in. It was clearly needed and more of it is wanted and we at Trans-Form Barnsley will try to fulfil that to the best of our ability.

As pumpkins lit up the room with creative designs and affirming messages, it was clear that Pronouns and Pumpkins had succeeded in carving out more than just gourds — it carved out connection.

November's event is already being organised by the group. Visit Trans-Form Barnsley's Facebook group for further information, or Barnsley Pride's social and digital platforms.
