Barnsley Pride officially becomes A registered Charity

Thursday 03rd September 2026 | Macauley Jacobson

Barnsley Pride has officially been registered as a charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s development and its commitment to supporting Barnsley’s LGBTQ+ community.

The achievement represents an important new chapter for Barnsley Pride, strengthening the organisation’s foundations and providing a platform from which to develop its charitable activities, community projects and partnerships across Barnsley and the surrounding areas.

Barnsley Pride has established itself as an important part of the local community, bringing people together through its annual Pride celebration while also promoting visibility, inclusion, equality and support for LGBTQ+ people throughout the year.

As a registered charity, Barnsley Pride will continue to develop its charitable work beyond the annual Pride event, creating opportunities for community engagement, participation, education, awareness and connection.

A new chapter for Barnsley Pride

Jo, Chair of Barnsley Pride Board of Trustees said: “Becoming a registered charity is a hugely significant moment for Barnsley Pride and for everyone who has supported us throughout our journey. Our Pride celebration has always been about much more than one day. It is about creating a community where LGBTQ+ people can come together, feel represented, be visible and celebrate who they are."

Our new charitable status gives us an opportunity to build on that work and develop a stronger, more sustainable organisation that can support our community throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of how far Barnsley Pride has come, but we are even more excited about where we can go next. This is the beginning of a new chapter, and we look forward to working with our community, volunteers, partners, supporters and local organisations to make an even greater difference.

Thank you to our community

Barnsley Pride would like to thank everyone who has played a part in its journey — including volunteers, performers, community groups, charities, businesses, sponsors, partners, supporters and everyone who has attended and supported Barnsley Pride over the years.

The organisation’s journey has been built on the commitment of its community, and its new charitable status represents an opportunity to build on that collective effort for the future.

Barnsley Pride is now looking forward to the next chapter — continuing to celebrate, support and promote the LGBTQ+ community across Barnsley and beyond.
