Aimee voted Community Hero at local awards
Saturday 15th November 2025

The Proud of Barnsley Awards 2025 shone a spotlight on local talent and dedication last night, as Aimee was named Community Hero in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Barnsley LGBTQ+ community.
Aimee, known for her tireless volunteer work and commitment to supporting local initiatives, was celebrated for going above and beyond to make a positive impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ residents across the borough. Her work over the years has save the annual pride event numerous times, earning her widespread admiration from peers and neighbours alike.
At the awards ceremony, held at Barnsley Metrodome on Friday 14th November, Aimee was applauded by fellow nominees, local officials, and community members. “It’s an incredible honour,” Aimee said. “I’ve always believed in the power of community, and to be recognised in this way is truly humbling. This award is for everyone who believes in helping others and making Barnsley a better place for all.”
The Proud of Barnsley Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals, groups, and organisations that make Barnsley a vibrant and caring community. The Community Hero award, in particular, recognises those whose selfless efforts positively shape lives and inspire others.
Aimee’s win serves as a reminder of the incredible impact that one person can have, and her story is set to inspire more residents to engage, volunteer, and give back to their community.
Aimee added "On the back of last night. I’m not sure what to say but one thing I will say for sure, I didn’t step into Pride for praise. I stepped in to honour a legacy, support a community, and build something beautiful and no amount of noise will rewrite that truth
I didn’t expect to win last night, just being nominated meant enough but thankyou to everyone who has voted, congratulated me, messaged, shared, supported and had my back over the years. You’ll never know how much it means. Tess thankyou for taking me on this wild Journey that has been Barnsley Pride. All for you!"
