Official Statement: Charity Status and Date Change
DATE
Today marks a truly special moment for us here at Barnsley Pride - we are now officially a registered charity. What started as an idea, driven by passion for our community, has grown in to something real and meaningful. This milestone represents our commitment to keep showing up, supporting others and building something that truly makes a difference.
Barnsley Pride 2026 will now take place on Saturday 25th July 2026. Becoming a charity brings new responsibilities and we want to make sure everything we do reflects the care, purpose and integrity this new chapter deserves.

After conversations with our supporting venues and various teams, the change is primarily due to an unforeseen clash with the FIFA World Cup.
As a major international event, the tournament would have placed significant pressure on local resources, travel, and attendance, potentially impacting the safety and accessibility of Barnsley Pride's logistics.
After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to move the date to ensure everyone can fully enjoy Pride in a safe, inclusive, and vibrant atmosphere.
Jo, Charity Operations Lead for Barnsley Pride said:
"This change reflects not only the growth of Barnsley Pride as an event, but also our deepened commitment to supporting, uplifting, and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community across Barnsley and beyond. Becoming a charity allows us to be more transparent, more accountable, and more impactful in the work we do throughout the year—not just on the day of Pride itself.
Our mission has always been rooted in inclusion, visibility, and community support. With charitable status, we are now better positioned to secure funding, build partnerships, and expand our outreach—whether that’s through educational initiatives, support services, or creating safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone."
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Barnsley Council’s Arts & Events Team for including Barnsley Pride in the Big Weekend celebrations in previous years. Their support, collaboration, and commitment to supporting inclusive, community-focused events means so much to us and to everyone who attends Pride each year. By championing Barnsley Pride in this way, they are helping to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, celebrate diversity, and create a welcoming space for all. We’re incredibly grateful for your partnership and dedication in making this event such a success.
