Who can apply to perform at Barnsley Pride?

Anyone with a passion for performing and something they’d love to bring to the Barnsley Pride stage can apply. We welcome singers, musicians, drag artists, dancers, bands, DJs, performers, spoken-word artists, community acts and more.

Do I need to be LGBTQ+ to perform?

Nope! Barnsley Pride welcomes performers from all backgrounds. What matters is that you support our values and are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for everyone.

What type of performances are you looking for?

We’re open to all sorts! From live music and drag to dance, cabaret, comedy, spoken word and community performances. If you've got a talent, we want to hear about it.

Can bands apply?

Absolutely! Whether you're a solo artist, duo, acoustic act, full band or something completely different, get your application in.

Can DJs apply?

Yes! DJs are welcome to apply, particularly where your style and set would fit the atmosphere of our event.

Is there a fee to apply?

No. Applying to perform at Barnsley Pride is free.

Will performers be paid?

Accepted Answer

Where performer fees are applicable, these will be discussed with successful applicants. Funding and budgets can vary between stages and performances. Any applicable fees will be paid within 14 working days after the event upon receipt of an invoice.

What stages are available?

Depending on the year, applications may be available for different performance areas, such as the Main Stage ( Mandela Gardens), Cabaret Stage (The Garrison) and Acoustic Stage (Barnsley Civic). Check the application form for the current opportunities.

Can I apply for more than one stage?

Yes, where appropriate. Please make it clear on your application which stage or type of performance you're interested in.

How long will my performance time be?

Performance slots vary depending on the stage and running order. If you're successful, we'll confirm your allocated performance time and set length with you.

Can I request a particular performance time?

You can let us know about any genuine availability issues when applying, but we cannot guarantee specific performance times.

Do I need to provide my own equipment?

This depends on your act and the stage. We'll provide information about available sound and technical equipment to successful performers before the event.

Can I bring my own backing tracks?

Yes, if your performance requires backing tracks, we'll provide instructions on how and when these need to be supplied.

Can I perform original songs?

Of course! Original music is very welcome. Cover versions may also be suitable depending on your performance.

Absolutely. We love seeing local community groups getting involved. If your group has something entertaining, creative or meaningful to share, we'd love to hear from you.

Can children or young performers apply?

Young performers may be able to take part, depending on the performance and event arrangements. Additional safeguarding requirements may apply, and we'll discuss these with successful applicants and their parent/guardian where appropriate.

Can I apply if I've never performed at Barnsley Pride before?

Definitely! We're always interested in discovering new talent. You don't need to have performed at Barnsley Pride previously.

Does applying guarantee me a performance slot?

Accepted Answer

No. We receive applications from a wide range of performers, and spaces are limited. Applications are reviewed based on the available stages, programme and suitability for the event.

When will I find out if I've been successful?

We'll contact successful applicants once the performer programme has been reviewed and confirmed. Please keep an eye on your emails, including your junk/spam folder.

What information do I need to provide?

You'll typically need to provide information about yourself or your act, your performance style, links to previous performances or social media, technical requirements and your availability.

Do I need to send videos of myself performing?

If you have one, we'd recommend including a performance video. It gives our team a better idea of your act. Don't worry if you don't have a professional recording — a clear phone recording can still be useful.

Can I apply on behalf of someone else?

Yes, but please make sure you have their permission and provide accurate contact and performance information.

What happens after I submit my application?

We'll review your application and may contact you if we need additional information. If selected, we'll then provide further details about your performance, timings, technical requirements and event arrangements 14 days after the stated deadline.

What if I need to cancel after being selected?

Please let us know as soon as possible. Last-minute cancellations can have a big impact on the running order, so early communication is really important.

Can I promote my own social media while performing?

Yes! We love supporting performers and giving you the opportunity to showcase your work. We'll provide any event-specific guidance around promotion and branding.

Will Barnsley Pride use photos or videos of my performance?

Photography and filming may take place during the event for promotional, media and archival purposes. Further information and relevant consent arrangements will be provided as part of the performer process.
